Tamsen Thackeray
Entertainment lawyer
I help people who make things keep what they make.
I started in business affairs at a music publisher, then at a television production company, where my job was to write the deals and clear the rights. I saw how many agreements were signed by people who had nobody to ask. So I opened a one-lawyer office in Burbank for the other side of the table: the musician, the filmmaker, the writer and the creator.
I'm a lawyer, not a manager or an agent. I don't find work or book shows. I read what's offered, explain it and write what you need.

How it works
From the first call to a signed deal
Four steps, each with a price you know before you start.
- 01
Step 1: A free first call
Twenty minutes to hear about the deal, read the key terms and tell you what I see.
- 02
Step 2: A quote in writing
If you want a review or a draft, I send a flat fee and what it covers before anything starts.
- 03
Step 3: A marked-up draft
Plain-language notes, the changes I'd ask for and the ones I'd let go. We talk it through.
- 04
Step 4: Signed, and filed away
I send the other side your changes, and you sign knowing what you agreed to.
The office
A short drive from the lots
Thackeray Counsel is a single office on West Olive Avenue in Burbank. Appointments are in person, by phone or by video, and Saturday calls are open to people who work weekdays on set. The photo shows a Burbank boulevard at sunset, not the office.
